My Mom: The source of my inspiration and my motivation for wanting to be the best I can be. |
I thought that a little motivational post for a Monday was in the works. Why do I do the things that I do, and in the ways in which I do them?
I can answer that in one word: Mom.
My mom was the one who was always encouraging me to be me. It didn’t matter what I wanted to do, but I had to enjoy it.
Somewhere along the way, in the hustle and bustle of adult life, I lost that. I lost the fun. I lost the living. However, I found it in her death.
There is something about being in an examination room with someone when a doctor delivers bad news and an expiration date. You find out who they are.
The date was February 14, 2007 when my mother received her expiration date of one year. When asked what she wanted to do before she died, she said, “I’ve done everything I’ve ever wanted to do. I just want to see my grandchildren graduate from high school.” I thought to myself, when my time comes, I want to say that I have done everything I ever wanted to do. Unfortunately, at the time, I was barely doing anything. My life was boring and stagnant. I had lost the joy.
She passed away on March 30, 2008. In May 2008, I put in my application to attend college, and I finished with a degree in Secondary English Education. I am a teacher. I see life as fun. I love my job. I love the people with whom I work, and I love my students. I want what is best for them all. I also love writing.
My mother motivated and encouraged me when I wrote stories to entertain my brother and my friends. She didn’t mind when I wrote poetry, or I made up plays. She knew my talents and encouraged them.
Go out and find your motivation and live your life to the fullest.
